The purpose of the working group is to develop and advance plans for converting the region's commuter rail lines into a regional rail system, with fast, frequent service and affordable, integrated fares. The Penn Station Metro-Hub plan sets the stage for doing this. Subsequent steps are access to Lower Manhattan and the Penn Station-Grand Central link. The group also considers changes to rapid transit and light rail transit
that are "regional" in scale.
The Working Group holds monthly meetings, now usually on the fourth Wednesday in Lower Manhattan. Minutes of past meetings are available on this site. The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at City Hall, Hoboken, New Jersey. For directions and the Agenda of the February meeting, click here. In addition to the general monthly meetings of the Working Group, proceedings and reports of affiliates such as the Rockaway Subcommittee, focusing on particular rail initiatives within the region, are available in the current projects section of this Website.
